Guadalupe Canyon
05/2007 - I had heard about this camp down in Baja, MX a little SW of Mexicali with natural hot spring tubs in every camp site. So I figured if I was going to get away with an off-road trip on our anniversary it was going to have to be a romantic location. And in the foothills of a majestic peak with a personal hot tub filled with natural hot spring water and a fire pit next to it. But getting to this location was a little adventure. You leave the Hwy between Mexicali & Tecate and drive onto a dry lake bed. You take that for about 15 miles searching for little wood signs pointing you in the direction of Guadalupe Canyon. But on this Friday afternoon it would be quite windy and to the West of the dry lake bed are sand dunes. And for about 8 of the 15 miles we were in a sand storm causing us to go just 5 miles per hour with visibility down to just about 3ft in front of the hood. We were so focused on finding the next tire or sign marking our path that we forgot to snap a picture of a brown cloud out of our windshield. But we finally broke out of it without harm and still on track. And although the weekend was a bit HOT during the day and the first night was so windy it was collapsing our tent so we slept in the truck we can't wait for our next stay.
